Woman arrested after allegedly holding her boyfriend hostage in Irvine apartment
A woman has been arrested after police said she held her boyfriend at gunpoint for about an hour at her Irvine apartment.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Department said Tuesday that 31-year-old Tanya Dukes was arrested at her apartment in the 200 block of South Park Drive after a neighbor called 911 around 4 p.m.
She was charged with felony domestic violence battery.
A neighbor said Dukes held her 18-year, 7-year old son at gun point while the boy was inside the apartment.
He had been sleeping at his mother’s home in the 8200 block of East Main Street when the ordeal began.
The neighbor told police that Dukes had been holding the boy hostage while the two sat at the same table at the restaurant where they were eating.
She said that when the boy went to leave, she grabbed his gun and told him to stay at the table.
She then left the room, police said.
She told police she thought she heard him scream.
A neighbor who called 911 said she heard the child yelling, “Mommy, Mommy, mommy.”
The neighbor said he called 911 again and was told to get the child out of the apartment by his mother, who was inside.
The woman told police the boy tried to get out but was locked in a bedroom with his mother and a man who was trying to lock the door.
The man told police he was going to shoot the child, according to the arrest report.
The boy’s mother, 35-year veteran of the Marines, told deputies that she was home when the incident began and that she heard screaming coming from the bedroom and went outside to see what was going on.
She found her son in the bedroom, she told deputies.
The police report states that she said she had been drinking and that when she went to the kitchen, she heard her son screaming and told her to get his hands behind his back.
She ran out of her apartment and returned and found the boy in the kitchen.
She called 911 and the man came back inside and told the dispatcher that he was the only one who could help the child.
She told the police that he said he didn’t have a gun and the child was scared and wouldn’t say anything.
She was taken to Orange County Hospital in stable condition, the report said.
